NECTA
The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) , is a government organization founded in 1973 by Parliamentary Act No. 21. Tanzania’s National Examinations Council (NECTA) is in charge of administering all national exams.
Tanzania Mainland withdrew from the East African Exams Council (EAEC) in April 1971 to run her own examinations, prompting the formation of NECTA. In 1970, Zanzibar withdrew from EAEC. Tanzania sat for overseas Secondary School Examinations jointly administered by the East African Syndicate between 1968 and 1971, which were previously administered solely by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.
The School Certificate and Higher School Certificate Examinations were the exams administered by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate at the time. African students took the School Certificate Exams for the first time in 1947, and the Higher School Certificate Examinations for the first time in 1960.
