In North Queensland, Australia, there is a public institution called James Cook University (JCU). JCU is a teaching and research university and is the second-oldest in Queensland. The main campuses of the institution are situated in Singapore as well as the tropical cities of Cairns and Townsville.
Additionally, JCU offers study centers in Thursday Island, Mount Isa, Mackay, and Rockhampton. International and domestic students can take undergraduate and graduate courses at a Russo Higher Education facility in Brisbane. James Cook, a British sea captain well remembered for being the first European to discover Australia’s eastern coast, is the ship’s namesake. Cyclone Althea hit the Townsville region a year after JCU’s declaration. This led to the creation of a cyclone research facility, along with the devastation brought on by Cyclone Tracy in Darwin in 1974. (International Student Scholarships 2023)
As a small-scale project of Professor Hugh Trollope, the Cyclone Testing Station went into operation on November 1st, 1977 as the James Cook Cyclone Structural Testing Station. Later, in 2002, the name was changed to The Cyclone Testing Station. As a self-supporting division of the College of Science, Technology, and Engineering, the Cyclone Testing Station runs its operations.

Eligibility criteria for the Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarships
To qualify, you must have the following;
- have a valid student visa before beginning.
- hold a full-time offer from an internal school and keep a GPA of 6.0 (full fee waiver) or 5.5 (no fee) (partial fee waiver)
- The Higher Education Support Act of 2003’s definition of an overseas student, as required for eligibility for the Scholarship, must be met by candidates.
- The applicant must have submitted an application to the University of Sydney for an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree but not yet started the program.
- Candidates starting their second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible as long as they haven’t previously held one of the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships.
- Scholarship recipients from the Australian Government are ineligible.
Termination: The grantee will lose the scholarship if they:
I. withdraws from or doesn’t enroll in a qualifying course.
ii. enrolls at a domestic university,
iii. begins part-time study without seeking permission first,
Iv. does not continue to do satisfactorily in school,
The University finds that v. has engaged in serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, providing false or deceptive information in their scholarship application,
vi. has accepted a scholarship offered by the University of Sydney that is worth at least $10,000 a year and is supported by the university or a third party. does not return to study after a period of allowed leave has ended, or
viii. any other clause specified in these agreements that would result in termination.
